Job Description


  • Works with Colorado Bar Association leadership to establish the Bar’s public policy program and priorities. Meets regularly with substantive sections and committees to develop their legislative agendas and ensure they fit within the Bar’s public policy plan.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with members of the Colorado legislature and other public office holders to promote the Bar Association’s legislative agenda. Analyzes all proposed legislation and works with Bar sections and committees to determine possible impact on Colorado Bar Association and its members.

  • Advises legislators and other public officials of the merits or issues of specific bills to amend bills or influence their passage or defeat. Also, works with legislators to introduce legislation favorable to the Bar’s interests. Establishes and maintains relationships with outside entities and individuals with related interests to develop collaborative approaches to legislative activities.

  • Plans, coordinates and attends meetings between members and elected officials to discuss legislative issues and proposals.

  • Monitors ballot initiative filings and provides analysis, recommendations, and reports to Bar leadership on proposals which have a possible impact on the judiciary and the legal profession.

  • Establishes relationships with regulatory agencies and testifies at public hearings to promote Bar’s interests.
  • Educates Bar Association members regarding Bar policies and procedures for advancing and responding to legislation.

  • Provides reports and presents CLE programs to Bar Association leadership, local bar associations, and members regarding legislation and the legislative session. Provides training and technical assistance to organizations and their members regarding the legislative process and lobbying techniques.
  • Required to register with the Secretary of State’s office as a lobbyist and must submit monthly reports of lobbying activities.
  • Juris doctorate and legislative experience are helpful but not required
