LARIMER COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION
MINUTES FROM THE FEBRUARY 8, 2005 MEETING
AT CAFÉ BLUEBIRD AT 7:05 A.M.
ATTENDING: Peter Bullard, Ian McCargar, Dick Gast, Mason Mitchell, Linda Miller, Cathy Vlasak, Julie Stencel, Jennifer Rice, and David Johnson.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: January 11, 2005 minutes were approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT: No report was given.
BOARD OF GOVERNORS: No report was given.
YOUNG LAWYERS: Julie Stencel provided the report. Two Brown Bag Seminars are scheduled for the upcoming months.
PROFESSIONALISM COMMITTEE: Ian gave the report for Eric Sunness. At the next meeting, February 17, 2005, the committee will select the recipient for the Professionalism Award. The award will be presented at the Spring Term Day Meeting. The Ethic’s Seminar is scheduled for April 21, 2005 at 1 PM. John Jostad will chair the seminar.
WOMEN’S BAR: Jennifer Rice provided the report. Carolyn Pannel is the new Treasurer for the Women’s Bar. Two brown bag seminars are scheduled.
PRO BONO PROGRAM: Jennifer Rice provided the report. She states things are going well at the time. There are currently 15 people on the waiting list. Volunteers are now eligible for CLE credit when donating time through a bar pro bono program.
LIBRARY: Ian McCargar provided the report. John Frey will give the keynote speech on the Ralph Coyte Library Dedication. The portrait painting has been completed and the plaque is on order. The dedication will occur on Term Day at 10:30 AM.
NEW BUSINESS: Maureen Smith is organizing Law Day activities this year. The Larimer County Practice Manual is being up-dated. Jennifer Rice is in charge and asking for all revisions to be submitted by May 1, 2005. Peter Bullard made a presentation on Senior Law Day. There are six lawyers involved on the Senior Law Committee who want to have a day set aside as Senior Law Day. The committee wants to present a free seminar and is asking the LCBA to co-sponsor the event. A tentative date of September 23, 2005 has been selected. The Executive Committee agreed to put this on the agenda for the up-coming retreat. Pete is seeking $2000.00 from the LCBA.
OLD BUSINESS: Fort Collins has four High School Mock Trial Teams that will be competing the end of February. Term Day activities are in place. Coffee and donuts are scheduled before the business meeting. After the business meeting the dedication of the library will take place. Lunch will be served at the Lincoln Center, where the professionalism award will be presented. Bowling will start at 2 PM at the Chipper’s Lanes on Horsetooth.
Our new President will schedule the next meeting, after the election of Officers at our Spring Term Day.
