LARIMER COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION
MINUTES FROM THE AUGUST 10, 2004 MEETING
AT CAFÉ BLUEBIRD AT 7:05 A.M.

 

 

ATTENDING: Jeanne Drake, Ian McCargar, Mason Mitchell, Linda Miller, Dan Muffly, Jennifer Rice, Cathy Vlasak and David Johnson.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: July 10, 2004 minutes approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT: No financial report was given, as we do not have current financials from CW Decker & Co. Dan will contact CW Decker & Co. Dan did receive $22,000.00 from CBA for the dues collected.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS: No report was given, although Randy Starr did send an e-mail from his cruise ship at Malta indicating he would not be able to attend this meeting.

YOUNG LAWYERS: No report was given.

PROFESSIONALISM COMMITTEE: Eric Sunness is the presiding chairperson. This committee will begin meeting in September.

WOMEN’S BAR: Jennifer Rice provided the report. Jennifer submitted an article on Judge Blair, which will be in the Colorado Women’s Bar Association Magazine, Advocate, in the Meet a Member Section in September.

PRO BONO PROGRAM: Jennifer Rice provided the report. Things are going well. There are approximately 12 individuals awaiting placement with attorneys. Ellen has been very helpful in prescreening clients and informing them of the process to handle matters pro se.

LIBRARY: Ian provided the report. A complete set of Restatements, AmJur and ALR has been purchased. Ian has met with Judge Hiatt about naming the library after a luminary. Ian will be meeting with the Commissioners next. It was suggested he also talk to George Haas. The Library Committee has requested that Dan attend the next library meeting to discuss budget issues.

NEW BUSINESS: Cathy submitted up-dated information to the CBA on the present officers and liaison members. This information will be posted on the CBA website.

OLD BUSINESS: Jennifer talked to a committee member of the Denver Bar Association who helps put on the wine tasting fund raiser in Denver. It was explained they plan on 150 attendees and charge $25.00 for members and $35.00 for non-members. All the wine is donated. They also have a silent auction during the event. Food is bought and they expect 2 drinks per person. They start planning for the event 6 months in advance. They have $500.00 to $1,000.00 in costs and net approximately $3,500.00,

Final planning was discussed about our up-coming term day on September 10, 2004. The event will be at Brauns. Dan is in charge of the band. Mason is in charge of the golfing event. Jeannie is in charge of decorations for the meal and coffee and donuts for the morning meeting. Cathy will sent out the notice for term day via mailings with sign-ups for dinner and golf.

The Messenger will be published after today with Term Day information included.
