*** Update on CBA Economic Survey
"Best laid plans" — we thought we were ready to launch the questionnaire for the update of the Economic Survey. However, due to technical problems with the online questionnaire and the approaching holidays, we have decided to hold off until after the first of the year. Consequently, the survey will now be the "2008 Economic Survey" and will be based on 2007 data. Please look for your questionnaire shortly after tax time! If you have any questions, contact Reba Nance at reban@cobar.org.

*** Ethics for Government Lawyers VII
The CBA Government Counsel Section and the Colorado Attorney General's Office will present “Ethics for Government Lawyers VII” on Friday, Dec. 7, 8 a.m.–noon (registration and hot breakfast buffet at 7:30 a.m.), at The Warwick Hotel, 1776 Grant St., in Denver. Cost is $40 for CBA members and Colorado Attorney General's Office Attorneys; $55 for all other participants. Four CLE Ethics credits have been granted. RSVP to lunches@cobar.org or (303) 860-1115 ext. 727. This program will not be recorded. Click here for details about the program, which are on the Government Counsel Section webpage.

*** Save the Date for Technology
The Colorado Bar Association is proud to be a Program Promoter for the American Bar Association TECHSHOW 2008, the world's premier legal technology conference and expo, March 13–15, in Chicago. Register before Feb. 1 and receive a $100 discount. Use the CBA's Program Promoter Code, PP807, when registering, and save an additional $100! Check out special registration deals for solos and small firms, paralegals and single-day passes. Click here to visit the CBA Law Practice Management webpage for details, tips for first-time attendees, and the “60 Sites in 60 Minutes” archive.

*** The Colorado Lawyer Ad Rates
The Colorado Lawyer wants to alert members and advertisers that new rates for Lawyers’ Announcements and Classifieds will be effective for the January 2008 issue. The publication also has added new display ad sizes to go with its new layout. New rates are listed in the November issue. Check out the upcoming December issue for the two-page spread that will give you all of the advertising information you need. Call the CBA with questions, (303) 860-1115.

*** Aviation and Space Law
Learn about the latest cases dealing with air crashes, and what's new in space law (which involves satellites and other issues). This CBA–CLE program, Nov. 15, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m., is an opportunity to learn about a new area of practice or to brush-up on new developments in air and space law. Register online: Aviation and Space Law.

*** CJI Judicial Excellence Dinner
The Colorado Judicial Institute’s Fifth Annual Judicial Excellence Dinner will be Nov. 15 at the Denver Marriott City Center, 1701 California St. Cocktail reception is at 6 p.m.; dinner is at 7 p.m. Gov. Bill Ritter will be the keynote speaker. Judicial Excellence Awards will be given to Hon. Roxanne Bailin, Hon. James B. Breese and Hon. Dinsmore Tuttle. *** Available from CLE Books (order online!)
A Practical Guide to Software Licensing for Licensees and Licensors: Model Forms and Annotations examines the fundamental issues that licensors and licensees confront in the negotiation of a software license and looks at relevant ancillary issues, such as software development, maintenance and support. For information, call (303) 860-0608, toll-free (888) 860-2531; or visit www.cobar.org/cle.

*** Tip of the Week: Showcalc, a Free Add-On Calculator Complete with a Tape!
The problem with the built-in Windows calculator is that there is no tape, like there is with a standard desk adding machine. No tape means that if there's a problem, you can't go back to see where you made your mistake. Showcalc is a Windows calculator with a scrolling tape that makes it easy to look back at previous calculations to check your work. The scrolling tape display can be customized to your needs. You also can print a copy of the tape. Showcalc is customizable; you can change the tape's font, size and format. You also can hide the tape to give the calculator a slimmer profile. The most recent freeware version of Showcalc can be found at www.321download.com/LastFreeware/page7.html. Now you won't need to take an adding machine with you wherever you go! If you have any questions, contact Reba Nance at reban@cobar.org.
