Cheryl Ferne of Dorsey & Whitney LLP

Cheryl Arnold Ferne has filled a vital gap for Metro Volunteer Lawyers. They were always understaffed in the Family Law Court Program in Adams County. Cheryl attended training for the Family Law Court Program in 2006, and has been a regular volunteer in Adams County ever since.

She helps clients complete their Sworn Financial Statements and prepare for their Initial Status Conference with the Court. She also helps clients complete their initial paperwork for divorce and custody cases. She's comfortable working one-on-one with clients who need extra attention and assistance. And she's comfortable leading groups of clients through the required paperwork. In addition, Cheryl is very compassionate with the clients and will listen to their stories and respond with reassurance and comfort far beyond the scope of what we ask of our paralegal volunteers.

Cheryl was apologetic when she missed a month following major knee surgery.  But she was back quickly. And Metro Volunteer Lawyers can count on the fact that she will be there every month, without fail.

Cheryl's commitment to the Family Law Court Program and to the Metro Volunteer Lawyers' clients has improved significantly our ability to serve low income clients in Adams County. She helped turn a struggling program into a thriving program.
