The system automatically generates daily/weekly/monthly deadline reports by firm, practice group, attorney, paralegal, etc. Litigators that are accustomed to seeing their deadlines in their Outlook/Handheld can activate their LTBSync software that automatically syncrhronizes the deadlines calcuated in LawToolBox to Outlook (in a similar way to Blackberry synchronization with Outlook).

Legal Software Systems Conflict of Interest for the Small Law Office - Stand-alone conflict checking system. Operates with Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000 and XP; network enabled for Windows 2000/2003 Server and Novell Netware. Their core product is a fully integrated system: time and billing, general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, case management, document management, calendar, conflicts, etc. This stand-alone system was developed for small firms that don't need all of the features offered in the complete system. As of March 1, 2006, the conflict system is $349 for a single user, or $599 for a multi-user network version. The support varies - basic support is free with either version (free support includes e-mail to them with 24 hour response time). Premium support is $149 per year for a single user or $249 per year for multi-user. Premium support allows unlimited operational support via telephone, e-mail, or fax, and also includes ongoing program updates and enhancements.

LegalSoftwareSystems.com http://www.legalsoftwaresystems.com/software_coi2.html offers a stand-alone conflict of interest checking software package for the small firm. It comes with a free evaluation opportunity. The evaluation package is fully functional, but only allows a maximum of 100 total clients, matters and other parties in the database. Once you reach that maximum limit the software will become disabled after 30 additional uses. Their stand-alone package retails for $349 for single user version and $599 for the multi-user version. Both versions are network enabled. Although this product is sold as a stand-alone solution, the primary focus of this company is integrated management solutions for law firms.

Comments from CBA members re: TrialDirector:
We have used trial director to display depositions (text and video synchronized). It works well for that purpose. We did not use it to display other types of evidence. It might be great for that in complex cases with more than 1,000 pages of exhibits. For cases under that number of pages (and probably somewhat higher as well), Adobe Acrobat works just fine.
I have used it for a number of years. Its main competitor is Sanction, and some people seem to prefer that program, primarily due to the ease of syncronizing text and video deposition excerpts. I used the Trial Director several years ago during a three week trial with 2500 pages of admitted exhibits. I worked great and very efficiently. I could never have blown up as many pages as we used during the trial, and one of the great advantages is that you can highlight and blow up to a very legible size small portions of text from a letter or other document. In my experience, jurors have trouble reading text from blow ups of even the largest size.

Once installed, here’s how it works:

Click the CrossEyes icon on Word's toolbar to split the screen horizontally into two windows: the document above, and the corresponding text and formatting codes below. You can see tables, sections, field codes, and all character, paragraph and style formats. The two windows work in harmony; if you move the cursor in either window, you'll go to the corresponding location in the other. Unlike Word, CrossEyes can show where two bookmarks overlap, causing formatting problems that are otherwise hard to resolve. Double-clicking on a code brings up the Word dialog that controls it.
