Department of Membership Services

DESCRIPTION

Colorado Bar Association Department of Membership Services

The health and vitality of the organized bar is measured by the satisfaction of its membership. The department of membership services was established in 1987 in order to improve the delivery of commercial and substantive services provided to members by the CBA. The department currently has five full-time staff persons that are shared with the Denver Bar Association.

The Department of Membership Services is responsible for:

    l. The recruitment and retention of members in the Colorado Bar Association.

    2. The development and maintenance of benefits and services for the membership.

To fulfill the function of recruitment and retention of members in the CBA, the department has identified several groups of attorneys and non-attorneys to target for membership. These include law students, newly-admitted attorneys, public counsel, corporate counsel, non-members, non-renewing members, minorities, and of course, current members. Several programs have been developed to work with these groups. Information on some of these programs can be found on the following pages.

In conjunction with the recruitment and retention functions, the department is also responsible for maintaining all membership records and statistics. This membership information is available to local bar associations, CLE providers, membership services providers and outside vendors upon request (see attached membership questionnaire form).

The department is also responsible for developing and maintaining benefit programs and services for the membership. These currently include discounts on a variety of insurance programs, retirement plans, the Casemaker Online Law Library, MBNA MasterCard, LexisNexis legal research programs, Wells Fargo banking services, Geico Auto Insurance, Chase Preferred Mortgage Program, and car rental discounts.

The department also serves as a liaison to the Membership Services Committee.

Annual departmental projects include the Swearing-In Ceremony, participation in local law school orientations, and the coordination of the annual dues billing process.
