C.P.R. Directives-Chapter 6
In Colorado, it is presumed that you want and consent to have cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.). However, physicians can create a C.P.R. directive known as a "D.N.R. Order," "No C.P.R. Order" or "No Cor Order" for a patient in a health care facility. The doctor’s order means the patient is not to receive C.P.R. measures if breathing stops or if the heart stops beating. The physician can make this order either upon an evaluation of the patient or at the patient’s request.
The C.P. R. form is available through your doctor, who must explain to you the consequences of not receiving C.P.R. Once you have this form, you can buy a bracelet or necklace to alert emergency medical personnel that you do not want C.P.R. measures.
