STATE BUDGET CUTS CONTINUE TO AFFECT COURTS

The Colorado State Judicial Branch must eliminate up to 320 positions to meet the $12.7 million budget cut in court funding. Layoffs in many districts will begin in late May.

In the 17^th Judicial District, due to a high number of vacancies, layoffs will not be necessary. However, the district will permanently lose at least six of the vacant positions. In the next few months, the court will continue to evaluate current procedures to more effectively process cases with the number of staff remaining.
