VALUABLE FAMILY LAW CLE
The family law section of ABBA wants to heartily thank Judges John Popovich, Kathy Delgado, and Harlan Bockman for their willing participation at the Brown Bag Luncheon on Wednesday, August 20, 2003. The meeting was well attended and interesting transitions were discussed. Primarily among the issues was how to handle Status Conferences, when it is necessary and when unnecessary to hold a Status Conference. The court promised us more insight on this process in the future.
Also discussed was the method to handle emergency motions. The court urges all practitioners to be clear in the headings when filing a request for an emergency hearing. Name the motion carefully, citing it as an emergency and naming the primary issue. The judges indicated they would review and get back to us quite quickly if the clerks are made aware of the emergency nature of the paperwork.
