1.         New Ninth Judicial District Bar Association Website.  The new website is finally up and running!  Please check it out at .  From the website, you can get information on upcoming events, view Association Newsletters, view minutes of Bar Association meetings and more.  The new website is linked to the Colorado Bar Association website, but you do not need to be a CBA member to access the site.  Although it is now active, the website continues to be a work in progress.  So please visit the site and provide us with your comments or suggestions.


2.         Vacancy Announcement: City of Rifle Municipal Court Judge.  The City of Rifle is seeking applicants for the position of Municipal Court Judge.  The term of office of all municipal judges appointed by the City shall be for a period of two years.  Qualifications include:  (1) at least 25 years of age at the time they assume the duties of office; (2) licensed to practice law in Colorado; (3) at least five years of legal experience in Colorado, trial experience preferred; and (4) working knowledge of Colorado law, Colorado municipal court rules, rules of criminal procedure, and rules of evidence.  The Municipal Court Judge need not be a resident of the City of Rifle.  Resumes will be reviewed by the Rifle City Council on October 1, 2003.  City Council interviews for selected candidates will be held on October 15, 2003.  Appointment on November 5, 2003.

3.         DUI CLE.  The Ninth JD Bar Association is sponsoring a DUI CLE on October 3, 2003 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Rifle City Council Chambers, Rifle City Hall, 202 Railroad Avenue, in Rifle.  The CLE, presented by Jonathon Shamis and Jawn Ross, is about the basics of defending DUIs: what to know and how to advise your clients.  CLE credits are pending.  The CLE is free to 9th JD Bar Association Members, $10 for non-members.  Lunch will be provided at this event, so please RSVP no later than October 29th.


4.         Seminar on the Benefits of Conservation Easements.  The Aspen Valley Land Trust is sponsoring a seminar on the Benefits of Conservation Easements to be held on October 23, 2003 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Inn at Aspen.  Speakers include Jessica Jay of Conservation Law, P.C. and Martha Cochran, Executive Director of AVLT.  Two CLE credits are pending for this event, and the cost is $35.00 per person.


5.         Collaborative Law Training.  Some local attorneys are interested in getting a group together to attend a Collaborative Law training in Denver on November 13 and 14.  The training appears to be geared toward family law professionals (attorneys, mediators, accountants, mental health professionals, etc).  If a group of 5 or more people attends the event, the cost is $275; otherwise, the cost is $295.  If you are interested, please contact Katie Hays at the Silverman Law Office, 945-1000 or .


6.         Nominations for 2004 9th JD Bar Association Officers.  We’re still seeking nominations for the 2004 Bar Association Officers.  If you or someone you know would like to contribute to the local Bar Association by becoming an officer, please let us know.  The Bar Association’s annual meeting will be held in November, and that is when the new officers will be elected.
