JLS Legislative Session Conference Calls

Legislative Conference calls take place every Tuesday during the legislative session at 12 p.m.

These calls provide an opportunity for JLS members to learn about pending bills and to weigh in on any potential JLS comments/position on pending bills.  

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CALL-IN PARTICIPANTS:

Dial 1-866-200-5786 or 303-218-2281 (Denver Metro Area). The computer voice will ask for a conference ID, which is 3038245311#.

 ***Reminder: Your telephone is like an open microphone and any noises that you make from your location are also transmitted to the people at the program by way of the conference system.  Along those lines, please note the following instructions to mute and unmute your line:

Q: Which issues should we bring to the Legislative Policy Committee?

A: The Legislative Policy Committee wants to be responsive to issues surrounding the following: (1) Accuracy and Precision in Drafting, (2) The Practice of Law, (3) The Wishes of Membership, (4) Access to Justice, (5) Independence of the Judiciary, (6) Jury Trials, and (7) Legislative Relations.

PHONE CALLS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED. A bill matrix will be sent to the membership. If any member would like to have a phone conference on any bill in the matrix (or beyond), one can be arranged for any Tuesday from 12-1 during the legislative session. The call in information remains the same.

• We will discuss the Human Sexuality Education Bill, and the Truancy Bill revisions to see if these should (still?) be considered by the LPC.

• We will revisit our discussion of HB 13-1038, the Voting Rights in Juvenile Detention. The First Committee (heard on 1/24/13) proposed amendments. We had started discussing amendments of our own, but hadn't finished. The next hearing is February 8th.

• Thanks to those who participated in the call. We proposed amendments to the Identity Theft in Foster Care Bill (see link below) and the Expungement Bill (see link below).

• We return our attention to Child Abuse Reporting Requirements (please see link below)

• We plan to discuss the following bills: (1) Identity Theft in Foster Care and (2) Membership in Human Services Allocation Committee, which are calendared for the next few weeks and need decisions quickly.
• We may also get a chance to discuss the following bills, which have not yet been calendared: (1) Expungement Bill and (2) a bill about Human Sexuality Education.
