This photograph of a silhouette of an old cottonwood tree was taken in October 2002 in the Broomfield County open space area southeast of the Tom Frost Reservoir near 128th and Lowell (the tree has since been cut down). Photographer Craig R. Welling is with the firm of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons. His practice focuses on complex civil litigation and appellate work.
The City and County of Broomfield staff sent this correction "regarding the splendid photograph of the sunset and cottonwood tree on the cover of the November 2005 issue: The tree was not cut down, but actually was blown down by a severe windstorm. The pieces of the broken tree were placed around nearby Tom Frost Reservoir to provide wildlife habitat. The tree was highly prized by the community because eagles and hawks frequently perched on its branches."
