Convention: It’s time to register for the 102nd CBA Convention! The 2000 convention returns to Keystone September 8-10. Brochures: The Colorado Bar Association ("CBA") produces informational brochures on a variety of legal issues. Displaying these pamphlets for your clients is a great way to help them supplement their knowledge of Colorado law. Young Lawyers: The CBA Young Lawyers Division ("YLD") recently trekked to the Western Slope for a day of work and a night of fundraising. On April 29, 2000, CBA/YLD members helped Habitat for Humanity landscape several new houses in Fruita during the day, and hosted a winetasting fundraiser at the Grande River Winery in the evening. Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the Western Slope Center for Children. For more information, call Bill Munn at (303) 696-5405.
LOCAL BAR ASSOCIATIONS
The First Judicial District Bar Association will be teeing off on September 29, 2000, at their annual golf outing. This year, they’re returning to Fox Hollow at the Lakewood Golf Course, 13410 W. Morrison Rd., for an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start. The $105 fee includes green fees, cart, range balls, prizes, and lunch. To register, call Jerry Vargo at (303) 238-8832.
"Intellectual Property from the Perspective of the General Practitioner" will be presented by the El Paso County Bar Association on August 18, 2000, at 1 p.m. in the El Paso County District Court Jury Room 408. The registration fee is $35. Make checks payable to the El Paso County Bar Association, and mail them to 19 N. Tejon St., #200-D, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

On June 5, 2000, the Denver Bar Association ("DBA") YLD sponsored the Celebration of Excellence, a ceremony that honored 118 Colorado foster children who have overcome tremendous odds to graduate from high school or obtain a GED. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a huge success!

The 2000 DBA Annual Party was a huge success, drawing nearly 200 people to the Colorado History Museum on June 21, 2000. The DBA honored Steve Choquette, Award of Merit; Steve Collins, Volunteer Lawyer of the Year; Darla Benford, Legal Assistant of the Year; Tom Kelley, Liberty Bell Award; Laura Embleton, Young Lawyer of the Year; Karen Abbott, David Brofman Award; Gordon Heaton, Teacher of the Year; James Mair, Peace Officer of the Year; J. Stephen Phillips and Aleene Ortiz-White, Judicial Excellence Award; and Frank Moya and Russell Stone, Frontier Justice Award.

Sixty-eight golfers played at the DBA’s 2000 Henry Hall Memorial Golf Tournament. The June 19 tournament was held at the Red Rocks Country Club.

The Boulder County Bar Association’s annual dinner was held at the Angel Pines Country Club on May 11, 2000. Approximately 110 people attended the occasion. At the dinner, Rich Nehls was honored with the Award of Merit, and Jon Banashek was named Young Lawyer of the Year.

The Breckenridge Conference on Parental Responsibility will take place September 22-24, 2000, at the Breckenridge Beaver Run Resort. The program includes pre-conference basic skills workshops for lawyers and mental health professionals.
