Join Mr. Pearsall as he draws on his war crimes prosecution experience to explore law of war topics that are featured prominently in the Star Wars films, such as the use of weapons of mass destruction like the Death Star, the status of the Ewoks (are they civilians or combatants?), the legality of targeting civilian scientists like Galen Erso, the legality of the Rebels' frequent use of false surrender and wearing of Imperial uniforms, the Jedi's recruitment of child soldiers, and more.
Speaker: Gurney F. Pearsall III
Mr. Pearsall practices family law and appellate litigation with his sister at Pearsall Law Firm, P.C. As a captain in the US Army Reserves JAG Corps, he has had the opportunity to work with the Pentagon's war crimes prosecutors. And as a lifelong Star Wars fan, he has put together what he has learned from the films and from his prosecution experience to create an hour-long CLE on the depiction of war crimes in the Star Wars Universe.
