This presentation will review 42 CFR Part 2, the Federal privacy and confidentiality laws pertaining to substance abuse diagnosis and treatment. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) located in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is responsible for 42 CFR Part 2. SAMHSA has recently finalized changes to the confidentiality standards for substance abuse patient records and this presentation will cover the newly instituted regulations.
