History is made when the status quo is challenged. For the tides to turn all that’s needed is just one person to take a stand — and Minoru Yasui played a leading role. Recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015, Yasui was a Japanese American lawyer who fought most of his life to restore the rights that his people lost during World War II. Minoru Yasui relentlessly questioned the law that restricted the rights of Japanese people and other minorities, even through years of being imprisoned in an internment camp. |
Join DBA President Nancy Cohen and CBA President Patricia Jarzobski to hear the extraordinary story of the civil right leader who fought the discriminatory policies all the way to the Supreme Courts. Guest speaker and niece of Minoru, Robin Yasui will recount the legacy and the history that her uncle created, and how the Minoru Yasai Tribute project continues his work. |
“If you begin to erode the liberties and freedom and rights of the individual, then you are indeed jeopardizing the safety of our whole nation. That was my position.” ~Minoru Yasui |
DBA members have volunteered to provide food and beverages from around the world. |
