Program Description:
 
This program offers an in-depth comparison of the differing perspectives between Mediators and Attorneys, exploring how each profession approaches conflict resolution and legal strategy. Participants will gain valuable insights from a panel of experts representing the ADR, Solo and Small Firm, Labor and Employment, and Litigation Sections. The session will examine the unique roles and methods of mediation versus traditional legal representation, offering practical knowledge for professionals navigating these fields. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how these approaches intersect and complement one another in various legal contexts.
 
Speaker Bios:
 
Kayla Dreyer, Esq., combines her background as a sophisticated litigator with her work on traditional employment matters and as trusted corporate counsel. Kayla has experience counseling companies on trade secrets, employee restrictive covenants, alleged discrimination, harassment, wage and hour violations and retaliation. With a truly nationwide practice, Kayla regularly litigates, arbitrates and represents clients throughout the United States and has deep ties throughout her home state of Texas, as well as New Mexico, where she completed a federal judicial clerkship. Kayla also provides the full suite of employment counseling and advice services for all manner of employers, and regularly negotiates employment, non-competition, non-disclosure, nonsolicitation and severance agreements relating to executives, medical and legal professionals, and other high-wage earners in transition. She also assists with due diligence support in corporate acquisition and merger transactions. Kayla rounds out her practice by providing customized employment services to nonprofits, home offices and private individuals and families.
 
 
Joseph MacHatton is an Of Counsel Attorney at Werge & Corbin Law Group, and practices in the areas of business litigation, real estate litigation, and criminal defense litigation with his mediation firm, Mach 1 Mediation. He received his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law, and his undergraduate degree in accounting from the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University. He focuses his practice on litigation and mediation, and representing clients who have civil or criminal issues. Prior to joining Werge & Corbin Law Group, Mr. MacHatton was a litigation attorney for Murray & McCarthy Law. He was also the Lead Public Defender for the City of Westminster Municipal Court, a position he started while working as an Associate Attorney at Flesch and Beck Law. Mr. MacHatton also worked as an Associate Attorney at Charles H. Torres, P.C., practicing business litigation; medical malpractice; criminal defense, including white collar crime; landlord-tenant disputes; and personal injury.
 
 
Wes P. Wollenweber is of counsel to the firm Jachimiak Peterson Kummer in Lakewood, Colorado, and founder of ReSolve ADR Group. Wes is a 26-year trial lawyer, who mediates and arbitrates HOA, employment and non-competition, construction, real estate, land use, and consumer protection (FDCPA, FCRA, TCPA) disputes. Wes is a public speaker on housing topics and the author of the book, “HOAs on the Edge (How to Deal with Expectations, Risks, and Alternatives in Community Legal Disputes).”
 
Robin R. Rossenfeld has served in a variety of positions on the ADR Section’s Executive Council over the past twenty years. She currently serves as the treasurer and program chair for the Section. Robin opened her mediation and arbitration business, R3 Mediation, LLC, in 1999. She specializes in business disputes, family conflicts, and employment issues. Robin is a frequent speaker on legal and conflict resolution issues. She has worked as an administrative law judge/hearing officer in New York City and Denver. She taught in the Community College of Aurora paralegal, mediation and business programs for fifteen years, as well as with the Colorado Community Colleges Online and Colorado Mountain College paralegal programs. In 2012, she created Conflict Management Consultants, LLC, an online conflict resolution and mediation skills training program. Robin is a member of the United States Postal Service REDRESS panel. She spent four years as a Reservist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency Alternative Dispute Resolution Cadre. She is a Denver-Boulder Better Business Bureau arbitrator and mediator.
