Protection Orders Updates: 2025 Civil Protection Order Changes and the Extreme Risk Protection Order Statute

The presentation will discuss recent changes to the Civil Protection Order statute that family law practitioners should be aware of, and practical considerations for how the changes will affect practice in this area going forward. The presentation will also discuss how attorneys can effectively use ERPOs in conjunction with Civil Protection Orders to protect clients that have experienced domestic violence involving the use or threatened use of firearms and will analyze the unique statutory provisions of Title 13, Article 14.5 that practitioners should be aware of.
