As a Trust & Estate or Elder law attorney, taxes permeate everything you do.  In fact, four federal taxes must be considered, even if you limit your practice to “small” or “non-taxable” estates:  income taxes, estate taxes, gift taxes and generation-skipping transfer taxes.

The Estate, Gift and Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax Series is designed to be a convenient, six-session introduction or refresher class on federal transfer taxation.  Following an introductory overview, specific sessions will dive deeper into gift taxes, estate taxes, and generation-skipping transfer taxes.  Selected essential income tax concepts will also be taught.  The series will conclude with an application of tax principles to common estate and trust planning tools and techniques, along with a look to the future when many more clients than today may be subject to transfer tax.

Tax issues come up in estates of all sizes.  Solidify your foundational knowledge, fill in the gaps, be able to spot issues and opportunities, confidently answer client questions, and learn the “why” behind common estate planning tools and techniques.

The six classes:

- Overview of the Transfer Tax System
- An Introduction to Federal Gift Taxation
- Estate Tax Part 1
- Estate Tax Part 2
- Planning for the Three Ghosts of Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax — Past, Present, and Future
- Planning Techniques
