Karen Hammer is an active leader within the legal community. She is currently the Co-Secretary of the Colorado Bar Association’s Ethics Committee and Chairs the CBA Ethics Hotline subcommittee of attorneys who respond to ethics inquiries from attorneys. She is also the former Secretary of the CBA-Denver Bar Association Professionalism Coordinating Council of judges and lawyers. Hammer was appointed by the Colorado Supreme Court to the Hearing Panel for the Office of Presiding Disciplinary Judge. She serves as co-chair of the Boulder Bar Association's Business Law Section.
Hammer was recently one of four attorneys interviewed for the position of Colorado's Attorney Regulation Counsel. She played a key role in developing the Colorado Supreme Court's first-in-the-nation lawyer self-assessment program developed by the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Hammer was one of three people selected to lead the development of the competency portion of the lawyer self-assessment.
Prior to moving to Colorado, Hammer served as the Co-Chair of the District of Columbia Bar Association’s Real Estate, Housing, and Land Use Section. She is a member of the United States Supreme Court Bar and was a previous appointee to the White House and Congressional Conference on Character Building in Education.
Hammer is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law and received an advanced law degree in International and Comparative Law with honors from Georgetown University. At Georgetown, she studied international project finance with senior lawyers from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
Hammer has worked for prominent law firms, as well as holding senior legal positions within industry-leading companies. She applies her experience with roughly $2 billion in innovative business transactions and complex financings to business litigation requiring an understanding of how individuals, businesses, and lawyers make decisions. She relies on her knowledge of complex business transactions to identify practical solutions to real world problems.

Boulder County Public Health awarded them the 2017 Medical Reserve Corps Volunteer of the Year Award. They have spearheaded innovative projects for first-responders, public health workers, and the community relying on evidence-based practices, and have received a variety of competitive grants related thereto.
Their active deployments have included assisting law enforcement and their families immediately following the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood active shooter incident; assisting first responders at fire base camp for a federally-declared wildland fire emergency; and providing disaster prevention services during the full solar eclipse in Casper, Wyoming.
