Dear CBA Member,

Thank you for being a member of the Colorado Bar Association. I am honored to serve as your President.

I am a proud Colorado native. I grew up in Westminster, in the suburbs north of Denver. I attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, and received a degree in history. I went on to law school at the University of Denver, graduating in 2003. I have been fortunate to practice with the same core group of attorneys for my entire career. I am a founding shareholder of Ciancio Ciancio Brown, P.C. in Broomfield. My practice focuses on Plaintiff’s Personal Injury and Wrongful Death, Criminal Defense, Civil Litigation, and Liquor Licensing.

I credit bar association participation as the foundation of my practice and career. My local bar association, the Adams Broomfield Bar Association, has provided me with friendships, professional relationships, and the ability to work on Access to Justice initiatives and other programs that help to give a voice to the underrepresented and most vulnerable in our legal system. Through the CBA, I have been able to broaden my involvement and impact. As a participant in the Colorado Bar Association Leadership Training (COBALT), I was able to connect with attorneys from different parts of the state, and learn what it means to be an effective leader in the profession and the bar.

I now have the privilege to lead our bar association, and help shape the future of our profession. This is a time of change and possibility for the CBA. We have a new executive director, a new legislative policy director, and I am fortunate to be the youngest president in the history of the CBA. In the next year, we will seize the opportunities presented by these positive developments.

One of my key initiatives will involve the creation of a diversity council, initially comprised of the leadership of all of the specialty bar associations. The purpose of the diversity council will be to facilitate direct communication between the specialty bars and the CBA with the goal of promoting meaningful diversity and inclusion within the CBA.

During this next year, I will also focus on continued outreach to law students and young lawyers. I plan to meet with students in the law schools to better focus on the needs of law students as they enter the profession and the CBA. This will coincide with our efforts to support and strengthen our already successful Young Lawyer’s Division. We hope to continue to provide opportunities for law students and young lawyers to be involved in the upcoming CBA events, committees, and sections.

Finally, we will continue to advance and support the many successful Access to Justice initiatives which help provide legal services to indigent and modest means litigants.

To accomplish these goals, the CBA is embarking on a strategic planning process. By the end of my term, we hope to have a strategic plan in place which will guide the CBA and the profession into the future. The strategic planning process will require input from all CBA members. One of the most enjoyable duties of the CBA president involves traveling throughout the state, and meeting with the local bar associations. On those visits, I will take the opportunity to speak with our members and learn what they want to see from the CBA in the future. Together we will create a strategic plan that will ensure the CBA meets the needs of all members.

I look forward to meeting with you as I travel our beautiful state. If you are unable to attend one of the local bar visits, please give me a call or send me an email to share your thoughts and hopes for the future of the CBA.

Loren M. Brown

CBA President 2015-16
