Hon. Marcia S. Krieger

Judge Marcia S. Krieger has served as a federal judge in the District of Colorado for more than 28 years.  From 1994 to 2002, she served on the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado and as its Chief Judge between 2000-2002.  In 2002, she was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the United States District Court.  She served as Chief Judge of the court from 2013 to 2019 and took “active senior status” in 2019.  Judge Krieger has longed believed that she has an obligation to support attorneys and judges in the fulfillment of their professional responsibilities and to foster civic education.  To that end, she has taught at both the University of Colorado School of Law and the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law; she has taught in innumerable continuing education programs, authored many articles, and co-authored two books - International Insolvency (Federal Judicial Center, 2001) and The Women’s Legal Guide (Fulcrum Publishing, 1996); and she is justifiably proud of her efforts in helping to found the Our Courts Program.  Judge Krieger has been honored by numerous professional and civic groups during her career.  Since taking senior status, she divides her professional work between the District of Colorado and the District of Minnesota.

 

Hon. Russell E. Carparelli

Judge Russ Carparelli graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law, and the University of Virginia School of Law. From 1970 to 1990, he served on active duty as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he served in various capacities including military trial judge, military appellate judge, and legal counsel to the Air Force General Staff. He retired from the Air Force in the grade of Lieutenant Colonel, after which he was in private practice in Golden and Denver. He was appointed to the Colorado Court of Appeals by Governor Bill Owens in February 2003 and served there until his retirement in December 2013. Judge Carparelli has received numerous awards over the course of his career, including the Denver Bar Association’s Judicial Excellence Award; the University of Virginia’s William J. Brennan, Jr., Award in recognition of his skills as a judge, his contributions to the National Trial Advocacy College, and his contributions to the legal profession; and the American Bar Association’s Civility and Law Award. He is also proud of the national recognition received by the Our Courts program, which he co‑founded. Judge Carparelli now serves on the Sturm College of Law Alumni Council, he is active in efforts to increase diversity on the bench, and he provides mediation and arbitration services to parties in litigated matters.

 

Dr. Ellie Greenberg

Dr. Elinor “Ellie” Greenberg (1932-2021) – A lifelong educator, Ellie Greenberg was a champion of women's and civil rights. She was proud of her work on the team that brought Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to Littleton in 1964, and helped establish Colorado's Fair Housing Laws in the 1960s. She was also an innovator in adult education, founding the University Without Walls at Loretto Heights College and serving in leadership roles for the Mountain and Plains Region of the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning, US West's Pathways to the Future, and the Mountain and Plains Partnership at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Through these efforts, she helped bring higher education into Colorado prisons, Navajo reservations, and Western rural communities. Ellie authored nine books on women's education and aging and led a series of luncheons featuring female authors from Colorado. She received numerous awards for her life’s work, including induction into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame. Ellie was a lifelong activist and used her leadership talents to improve the community and the broader world, including through her role in the founding of the Our Courts program, of which she was particularly proud.
