Proof of Military Service

The official records of military service are needed to prove eligibility for many benefits and legal protections.  Veteran service records may be requested by the veteran or their "next of kin" or by an advocate/attorney on their behalf through the National Archives. Confirmation of current military service can be accomplished via the Department of Defense SCRA website.

ABA Homefront

This website provides a detailed listing by State of legal referral resources for military families, as well as information on how private attorneys can join the ABA's Military Pro Bono Project.

National Veterans Legal Services Program
This organization spearheads two major programs:  1) Training advocates to handle VA appeals, and 2) “Lawyers Serving Warriors” – providing pro bono support for initial VA claims.  They offer an array of high-quality reasonably-priced training materials for advocates.

EX-POSE

EX-POSE is a national membership organization providing help to spouses regarding separation and divorce from active duty, reserve or retired military service members, including an attorney referral service.

GI Rights Helpline

Free, confidential, and accurate info on military regulations & practices for  service members, veterans, and their families, including discharge upgrades.

Justice for Vets

This clearinghouse website provides information and resources on veterans treatment courts around the United States, including a map listing those programs by State with contact information.  Click here for info about their 2013 national conference.

A confidential national helpline for military victims of sexual assault.

Service Members  Law Center

Designed for Reserve Component members, this site provides information about the basic laws related to the service member/ employer relationship and other civil rights and voting laws.

Advocacy for service members who are, or are perceived to be, lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender in order to ensure their equal treatment, benefits and opportunities.

Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program

The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program arranges for free attorneys for veterans (or their qualified family members) who have filed an appeal at the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

Our Free Virtual Support Meetings allow individuals to join 12-step AA/NA meetings that are hosted weekly by a person in recovery.
