COBALT Program

COBALT is an interactive leadership training program designed specifically for lawyers with demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to the legal community.  Not only are class members taught leadership skills, they also learn how to address challenges faced by leaders in the legal community and the general community.  The program’s goals include: nurturing effective leadership with respect to ethical, professional and community service issues; building relationships among legal leaders from across the state and from across experience levels; and raising the level of awareness among lawyers regarding the broad range of issues facing the legal profession.

2020 Class Announcement

The nomination period for the 2020 class is now open, and COBALT is seeking CBA members' input to assist in selecting members of the 2020 class program. This fall we will choose up to 20 practicing lawyers from around the state, at various levels of experience and in different specialties, to join this popular and prominent 6-month leadership program. Please review the goals of the program and nominate no more than three (3) CBA attorney members you personally know and believe to be current or potential leaders. CBA members may also self-nominate for the program.

The CBA makes every effort to honor our commitment to diversity in geography, areas of practices, age, gender, and ethnicity. All nominees are sent a formal COBALT application and requirements on July 29, and nominees have until August 30 to complete and return their application. The selected class of 2020 will be notified by early Fall 2020. CBA membership is required for admission to the COBALT class.

Due to delays to the 2020 COBALT Class because of COVID-19, applications for the 2021 class will be delayed until the first of the year. Once we have more definitive dates determined, they will be posted here. Contact Amy Sreenen at with any questions.
