Solo Small Firm Practice

Addresses in a practical fashion the unique needs of solo practitioners and attorneys in small firms. The section emphasis is on practical programs dealing with the nuts and bolts of owning one's own law practice, rather than on business meetings and formal structure. In 2019, of the more than 27,000 active attorneys in Colorado, more than 5,500 were solo practitioners, approximately 4,600 worked in firms of 2-10 attorneys, and another approximate 2,600 worked in firms of 11-50 attorneys, all of whom are welcome to take advantage of section benefits. By networking, using technology, and sharing expertise, the Solo Small Firm Section has a special ability to share their experiences in solving the hurdles that face solos and small firms without sacrificing the independence that drew us to solo/small firm practice. The Section offers regional and webcast CLEs, networking sessions (see Networking meetings below) and the SOLOinCOLO blog. The Section also offers an active listserve for solo and small firm attorneys to easily communicate with other attorneys across the state about topics including (but not limited to) technology, office space, referrals, etc. Annual elections of officers and a twelve person state-wide council offer the opportunity for leadership roles.
